What is a Perentie? It's a giant lizard from Australia! I've been drawing Perenties lately because they're going to be featured in my next book about emus. I've been enjoying honing my lizard-drawing skills. Lizard legs are particularly difficult because they're very floppy when they're at rest, which is difficult for me to draw. But then when they're in motion there's the same combination of stiffness and pliability that is present in human arms and legs which is also difficult to reproduce. In other words, when I can draw a realistic perentie leg, it makes me very happy inside. Little joys like that are part of why I keep coming back to the sketchbook to practice. There is so much to discover!
